Businesses warned of trade directory scam

19/9/2005

Cardiff Council Trading Standards are warning businesses in Cardiff to be on the alert for invoices from Walderman Publishing - United Telecom, International Trade and Business Database.

The invoices have been sent to a number of businesses in the Cardiff area demanding payment of £354.00 in respect of an 'entry' in an international trade directory. No knowledge of the company is known to any of the local businesses who contacted Trading Standards.

The company is based in Czechoslovakia but is using a mailing address in London at 37B New Cavendish St.

Large companies may not notice these invoices slip through and allow payment to be processed. Trading Standards want businesses to be aware of this potential scam.

Councillor Judith Woodman, Deputy Leader, Communities, Housing and Social Justice said: "These invoices could be easily paid without questioning what they are. I would advise local businesses to ignore them."

If further advice is needed, businesses can contact the Trading Standards Service on 029 20872059 or through Consumer Direct on 08454 040506
