Cardiff engineering firm expands to Thailand

27/2/2006

Cardiff based engineering consultancy, Halcrow has acquired the remaining 51% interest in Pyramid Development International Corporation (PDI), the Bangkok-based civil engineering consultancy.

In 2002, Halcrow acquired 49% of PDI from Asian Engineering Consultants (AEC), a consultancy group in Thailand. This latest move underpins Halcrow's position as one of the leading consultancies in the region. Operating as Halcrow PDI, the new company will enhance Halcrow's ability to undertake major infrastructure projects throughout Thailand and South East Asia.

Ali Adam, Halcrow's regional manager comments: "The creation of Halcrow PDI is part of Halcrow's strategy to develop its Asian market and strengthens our skill base. Halcrow PDI provides a springboard for growth throughout the transport, water, property, and maritime sectors and demonstrates our commitment to clients and partners throughout the region. Our long-term goals include the expansion of the business and to increase staff numbers to 150 within the next three years."

Since the mid 1990s, Halcrow has worked with PDI on a number of high profile commissions, including the MRTA metro and the State Railway of Thailand's (SRT) double tracking project. In addition, Halcrow has an impressive portfolio of projects throughout the country, including Map Ta Phut bulk terminal, the Bang Na - Bang Pil - Bang Pekong Expressway, the Klong Tha Dan Dam, and the Lat Krabang inland container depot.

"We will continue to build on the solid reputation we have established in recent years," continues Ali. "Halcrow PDI provides the very best in local expertise coupled with access to Halcrow's global network of specialists. We are looking forward to contributing to the continuing development of the region."
