Parents to view young drunks 30/10/2008
Anglesey parents will soon be able to see what happens when their children are caught drinking in the streets and parks or causing trouble in the community.
Evidence will be recorded by new CCTV headcams about to be piloted on the island.
The headcams have been bought by the Ynys Mon Community Safety Partnership and will be worn for a trial period by North Wales Police Community Support Officers.
Following a drink-related incident, the child or young person will be taken home by the police, and a follow-up visit will be arranged to view the recorded evidence which can be transferred on to a laptop or DVD and shown to parents or guardians in their living rooms.
Parents will be presented with irrefutable proof of any wrongdoing so as to take greater responsibility for their child's, to avoid any harsher penalties being imposed.
Community safety co-ordinator Tony Wyn Jones said, "These are the latest weapons in the fight against underage and binge drinking and associated juvenile anti-social and loutish behaviour.
"There are various reports in our communities of teenagers being drunk in public spaces and the headcams will allow the police to collate more conclusive evidence to show parents and guardians what undesirable activities are happening."
