Newport summer fun 25/5/2009
A summer of free entertainment starts next month in Newport city centre.
June starts with the return of the Festival of Classics car display on High Street. Taking place on June 6, organiser John Gibbon is looking at a line up of vehicles including a 1920s Austin Clifton and a 1980s hearse which featured on MTV’s ‘Pimp My Ride’.
TJ’s nightclub is also providing music throughout the afternoon.
Craft Folk will also be back on June 10 - 13 on Commercial Street selling a range of handcrafted goods as well as specialised food and drink.
The rest of the summer promises a variety of street theatre, arts and crafts workshops, giveaways and promotions by several council services including libraries, theatres and sports, and local companies EzeeePlay and Childsplay Café.
Jo Courtney, from Childsplay Café on Commercial Street, who will be providing arts activities and face painting, said: “As a new business in the city, we’re really happy to be involved in getting out to speaking to families and sharing the great services we offer all year round.
"Making a child’s day is one of our main aims at Childsplay and we aim to do that at the summer events on the city’s shopping streets."
All events take place in the city centre with most activities free to any visitors. To find out more visit the website below
