Ann Beynon to be Wales' Commissioner

20/11/2009

Wales Office Minister Wayne David today welcomed the appointment of Ann Beynon OBE as Wales Commissioner to the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

The three-year appointment will help to strengthen the Commission’s work on gender, age, disability, sex orientation, race, religion and belief, as well as its work with employers in the public and private sectors, and trade unions.

Welcoming the appointment Mr David said: “It is great news for Wales that Ann has been appointed Wales Commissioner to the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

“She will bring a strong voice to the table thanks to the knowledge and experience she has built up from her time working in high profile business roles in Wales.

“Ann and the other Commissioners will also have an important role to play as the Equality Bill, which was announced yesterday in the Queen’s Speech, makes its passage through Parliament. As one of Wales’ top female executives I’m sure Ann will prove to be a strong Wales Commissioner.”
