Council and school issue statement on fatal accident 26/11/2009
Bridgend County Borough Council and Brynteg Comprehensive School have issued statements following a fatal road traffic accident on Monday 16 November in which two 17 year old boys died.
The accident occurred at around 11pm on Ogmore Road and involved a single vehicle travelling in the direction of Ogmore By Sea.
A third boy, also aged 17, sustained injuries in the accident. He is currently being treated at the Princess of Wales Hospital. All three boys were sixth form pupils at Brynteg Comprehensive School.
Chris Davies, Headteacher of Brynteg Comprehensive School, said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened at this tragic accident which has claimed the lives of two of our sixth form pupils and injured a third.
“Brynteg Comprehensive School is a close-knit community, and the teachers, governors, pupils and staff are offering each other support and comfort during this distressing time.
“Our thoughts, hopes and prayers are with the family and friends of all who have been affected by this tragic accident.â€
Hilary Anthony, Corporate Director for Children at Bridgend County Borough Council, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of all who have been affected by this sad and tragic accident.
“The Local Education Authority is offering support to pupils, teachers and staff at Brynteg Comprehensive School, and is making extra counselling and help available.
“We will be liaising closely with the school over the coming weeks and months to ensure that they have all the support and assistance that they need at this difficult time.â€
Councillor Mel Nott, Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, and Councillor Alana Davies, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, issued a joint statement.
They said: “On behalf of Bridgend County Borough Council, we would like to express our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the pupils who have lost their lives in this terrible accident.
“We also hope and pray that the pupil who is currently in intensive care makes a full and rapid recovery.â€
