Thief runs away with shop till

3/2/2010

A man is in police custody after being arrested following an incident at a shop in Hirael, Bangor, when a till was stolen.

Shortly before 6pm last night a man ran into Glan Môr stores on Beach Road and stole the till. He ran out of the shop up towards the Nelson public house.

A short while later police received a report that a vehicle had crashed on William Street and that the two men who were travelling in the vehicle had run away from the scene.

Officers attended and a search was carried out in the area.

Police arrested a 21-year-old local man nearby on suspicion of theft. A second male remains outstanding.

Nobody was injured during the incident. Police are appealing for any witnesses, and are particularly keen on speaking to anyone who may have seen the second male run away from the vehicle to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Bangor CID on 101, or 0845 607 1001 (Welsh line), 0845 607 1002 (English line) or Crimestoppers Wales anonymously on 0800 555 111.
