Witness sought in hunt for missing schoolgirl

26/9/2002

Police in Gwent searching for a missing teenage girl have released the name of a man who contacted police at Pontypool on Tuesday claiming he had seen and spoken with her.

Fifteen-year-old Jenna Baldwin has not contacted her family since she left her home in Abersychan, near Pontypool on September 10.

The man, who identified himself as Andy Williams, told officers he spoke with Jenna when he saw her in the lane that runs from Henllys in Cwmbran towards Newport. He indicated that he lived in the Blaenavon area but did not divulge contact details.

At the time of the sighting Andy Williams stated that she was with a man described as being aged between 20 and 30 years of age, 5’10” in height, medium build with either a bald of shaved head and was wearing denims.

Chief Inspector John Oliver said, “I would like to appeal directly to Andy Williams and ask him to come forward and make contact with us again as his sighting and contact has been the most significant development to date.”

The telephone number to contact in confidence is (01495) 232260. Alternatively contact Pontypool Police Station on (01495) 764711.
