Swansea Museum exhibition one of best in UK 22/1/2008
The Titanic Honour and Glory exhibition currently running at Swansea Museum in Victoria Road has been named in Britain's top five by The Times newspaper. It's the only exhibition in Wales to have made the cut.
Thousands of visitors have been to see Titanic Honour and Glory since it was unveiled in October.
And anyone looking to catch a glimpse of the exhibition has just over a month left with the exhibits due to be packed away on March 2.
The Titanic Honour and Glory exhibition depicts the story and tragedy of the giant vessel that sank on April 15, 1912.
Rare and authentic treasures from the ship are featured as well as items from the Oscar-winning movie by James Cameron starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
The exhibition has been made possible with the help of Scottish couple Sean Szmalc and Margot Corson who own the artefacts including those featured in the 1997 film.
It's the first time they have brought their treasures to Wales.
The landmark display also contains information and artefacts provided by relatives and historians of Welsh passengers and crew following an appeal from Swansea Council curators.
Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Gerald Clement, said: "This exhibition has been hugely popular and again shows what a top class attraction we have in Swansea Museum.
"Thousands of people have already made a visit to take a look at the artefacts on display and anyone who hasn't yet had a glimpse has until the start of March to do so.
"Not only does the exhibition feature props from the 1997 movie but it also offers a local angle by including the stories of local people caught up in the tragedy.
"It's as much entertaining as it is educational and it appeals to people of all ages."
Probably the best news is that entry to the Titanic Honour and Glory exhibition is free.
