Elton John wows Margam Park audience

25/7/2000

Elton John wowed a fifteen thousand strong audience in the magnificent surroundings of Margam Park last week.

Set against the 160 year old Victorian Castle as a backdrop, Elton entertained the crowd for over three hours non stop, singing his way through favourites old and new.

The event was a major coup for Margam Park and the glorious weather added to everyone’s enjoyment. Margam Park has a special character of its own and the feeling of space and sense of history uplifted the entire evening. The setting lends itself perfectly to open air concerts and this was certainly a night to remember.

Elton’s words on the night to his fans were "We have got a beautiful castle, a beautiful setting and it’s going to be a show with just me and this 9 foot piano."

Chief Executive of Neath Port Talbot Council, Ken Sawyers, said, "Everyone was overawed by Elton’s stunning talent, but the evening also proved beyond any doubt that Margam Park is a wonderful venue for this kind of event – with the castle providing a fantastic background".

Cathi Marcus, the Council’s Arts and Entertainments Manager, added, "One of our aims for the Park is to use it more and more for major outdoor events. There is now a promotional video available which we will be sending out to promoters to show them what we can offer."
