Llangollen ready to welcome the world 15/1/2009
Multi-million selling recording artist Barbara Dickson and James Bond girlfriend Pussy Galore, otherwise known as actress Honor Blackman, will be among the stars at this year’s Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
The 007 theme continues when Carl Davis, renowned composer and conductor, directs the music of James Bond films with the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, Mary Carewe, and Simon Bowman.Â
The Llangollen event, one of the world’s largest global celebrations of music and dance, runs from July 7 to 12.
Other attractions include violinist Tasmin Little, chart-topping male quartet Blake, soprano sensation Natasha Marsh, and Jamaican born bass-baritone Sir Willard White
This year, for the first time, Llangollen will include an extra day of activities on Sunday, bringing the festival to a jam-packed full six days of activities.
A firework display will conclude the festival.
Mervyn Cousins, Eisteddfod Executive Director, said: “The Eisteddfod is developing and evolving each year, and we have more and more to offer competitors, visitors, and the local community annually.â€Â
Llangollen International Eisteddfod provides a platform for people of all nations to meet and communicate through the international language of music and dance, promoting peace, harmony and a greater understanding of world culture.Â
Singing and dancing competitions are held on the main pavilion stage throughout the week, ranging from soloists to dance and folk groups and choirs.
The festival has close links with the United Nations and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004. The International Eisteddfod’s Patron is Prince Charles, and Terry Waite CBE is the current President.
