Swansea pop concerts called off

9/7/2010

Two days of concerts next month by pop stars including Tony Hadley, Jools Holland and Bananarama have been called off because of poor ticket sales.

The concerts were to be staged at Swansea's Singleton Park on August 7 and 8 by organisers IML.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council's Strategic Manager for Tourism, Marketing and Events, said: "IML's decision not to go ahead with the concerts next month is disappointing because they would have been great additions to events that have already been held and those that are still yet to be staged in Swansea this summer.

"This was a commercial venture and the company have explained that their decision was based on poor ticket sales because of the economic climate."

Last month's Escape into the Park and the Pink concert were both a big success and there's more to come in Swansea over the next few months, including the return of Proms in the Park in September.
