Gold disc for Aled Jones

8/1/2003

Welsh recording artist Aled Jones has been presented with a gold disc to mark 100,000 sales of his new album Aled today (Wednesday, 8 January).

The success of the album, which was released on 14 October, made Aled the biggest-selling Welsh solo artist in 2002. The album is now set for release in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Japan, where the singer and broadcaster has already received 16 platinum albums.

Presenting the disc, Wales’ first minister Rhodri Morgan said: "Aled Jones has been a marvellous cultural ambassador for Wales since his very early success as a child. I am delighted that his first album since resuming his singing career has met with such acclaim and that he has achieved such outstanding record sales in the UK.”
