Bangor students win top film award 22/2/2006
A short film made by two Bangor University students, has beaten off stiff competition and won a prestigious Ffresh Award for the best Welsh Language film. The Ffresh event, which showcases, celebrates and inspires students studying moving image degrees in Wales, took place at Aberystwyth on the 16th and 17th of February.
Communications student Zachary Holbert, 24 of Texas teamed up with Creative Studies student Sarah Louise, 21 of Caernarfon, to create the short film called Tir Na Nog, which was also the overall winner at the first Bangor International and Student Film Festival last May. The Ffresh Welsh Language film juror, Owain Meredith, said, "The winning film had strong characters, strong acting and naturalistic dialogue, coupled with gentle, believable humour,"
The script, written by Creative Studies student Sarah Louise, tells the tale of a young woman who feels so out of place that everyday rural life is soon to drive her crazy. But, an out-of-this-world experience that took place in her childhood must be solved to re-discover who she really is.
