Dynamic nine to turn Wales green 17/7/2008
A team of nine dynamic 18 to 35 year olds from all walks of
life have been chosen to work together to help cut Wales's carbon craving.
Joining forces for Challenge Europe1, the British Council climate campaign, they were picked based on their passion and talents with the sole purpose of making a real difference in the fight against climate change.
Following a nationwide search, the nine will represent Wales as part of a wider Great Britain team. Their challenge will be to draw on knowledge from the worlds of science, business, academia and political thinking to develop and propose practical and sustainable ideas by the end of 2008.
They will then present their ideas to target client audiences, including experts on climate change, energy generation,
philanthropists, commercial organisations, government leaders and entrepreneurs, in an effort to develop their ideas into reality.
They hail from a variety of backgrounds ranging from F&H
Education to not-for-profit organisations and the Welsh Assembly Government. They will work together with teams from 14 other European countries, forming a unique network of over 200 Climate Advocates working to develop three achievable and sustainable ideas from each country.
The nine are Elin Roberts, Isabel Bottoms, Kayleigh Edwards, Louisa Huxtable, Adam Corner, Dr. Julie Gwilliam, Huw James, Alex Randall and Jorge Rodriguez-Rodriguez.
"I see Challenge Europe as a way for me and my contemporaries to get involved with decision making that will affect my future," said Louisa Huxtable. "I would like to share my experience and inspire others to come up with actions and solutions that can make a real difference"
Challenge Europe has been launched fuelled by evidence that climate change is the issue that most concerns this generation. It aims to show that individuals currently outside the climate change arena can bypass debate and make a profound impact.
