Untaxed cars targeted In Rhondda Cynon Taf 20/3/2004
A month long crack down on untaxed cars throughout Rhondda has been hailed as a success by the partners involved.
The aim was to remove untaxed vehicles and abandoned vehicles from the streets of Rhondda Cynon Taf. The owners were notified that their vehicles were likely to be impounded and that further action was going to be taken, if no response was received the cars were impounded.
They had 14 days to be claimed by the owners before they were crushed.
During the operation 109 cars were removed with a further 90 being taken away using the regular abandoned vehicle legislation.
‘Operation Cubit’ was a joint initiative by the DVLA, South Wales Police and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.
Last year alone, 3315 vehicles were reported as possibly abandoned, of these 1454 vehicles were sent for removal by the Council’s abandoned vehicles team.
Abandoned vehicles can be reported to the Wastebusters hotline 01443 494847.
