100m pounds for purer Welsh water 29/9/2008
Dwr Cymru Welsh Water is to invest more than 100 million pounds in North Wales to upgrade 13 drinking water treatment works supplying nearly 500,000 people.
It will greatly reduce the risk of cryptosporidium entering the water supply and also resolve taste and odour issues in some areas.
The investment will tackle a range of issues to improve service to customers. It includes major refurbishment of treatment works with the installation of new equipment to boost quality and provide added protection to water supply.
Welsh Water says its programme of work, which follows substantial investment in the 1990s, will reinforce treatment standards to deal with deterioration of reservoir water quality in recent years.
