Plaid MP presses for recognition of Gulf War Syndrome 13/10/2005
Plaid Cymru Parliamentary Leader, Elfyn Llwyd MP today met the Veterans Affairs Minister Don Touhig of the Ministry Of Defence to press for progress in the recognition of Gulf War Syndrome.
Elfyn Llwyd, with Colonel Terry English and Dr Dafydd Alun Jones, had a full and frank discussion with the Minister and officials about the pressing need for progress in the recognition of Gulf War Syndrome as a specific illness. Many ex-servicemen and women suffering from this illness feel let down and alienated by the attitude of the MOD.
Speaking today at Westminster, Elfyn Llwyd said: “ After a lengthy discussion, it became clear that the Minister and his officials would be prepared to listen to and consider further evidence on the subject and are open to persuasion. I was ably assisted by Colonel English and Dr Jones and am pleased that an active dialogue has now been initiated and it is hoped that a further meeting can be arranged after we have collated further evidence and information to present to the Minister.
“ I was pleased that the Minister showed a willingness to listen and that he said that he was open to persuasion. I believe that this is encouraging.”
