Last Choir Standing final could be all Welsh

22/8/2008

Fans of Cardiff choir Only Men Aloud are hoping the public won't rain on their favourites' parade in the semi-final of BBC's Last Choir Standing this weekend.
Cardiff Council is backing the all male group to succeed on the Saturday night prime time show and to progress to next weekend's grand final.
Having seen off Bath Male Choir last weekend with their show-topping rendition of the James Bond theme Goldfinger, the boys from the capital will now pit their talents against Revelation, ACM Gospel Choir and fellow Welsh choir Ysgol Glanaethwy from Bangor for a spot in the last round.
Having impressed with their varied repertoire, which has included the Welsh hymn Gwahoddiad and Don't Rain on My Parade which judge Russell Watson described as the best performance of the series, the 18-strong choir are hoping their performances this weekend will continue to win favour with the public.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: "Only Men Aloud have been absolutely fantastic so far on the show. In my opinion, they are by far the best performers of the choirs remaining. It's great to see two Welsh groups in the final four proving that the choral tradition is alive and well in Wales. I'd like to wish Ysgol Glanaethwy, who have also been very impressive over the past few weeks, the best of luck too but I think the Cardiff boys just have the edge.
"They are excellent ambassadors for the city. We're hoping they are still standing after the public vote on Saturday night and can go all the way in the competition."
