Management changes at BBC Wales 14/8/2003
BBC Wales has announced two further changes to its board of management, following the recent appointment of Karl Davies as Secretary.
Cathryn Allen has been appointed Head of Strategic Development. Her responsibilities will include developing strategies to respond to the modern broadcasting environment, ensuring that BBC Wales reacts proactively to audience tastes and to any regulatory changes as they affect programme services on television, radio and online.
Cathryn has been with the BBC since 1986, working in both Cardiff and London.
A former Managing Editor of BBC Wales's political unit, she has worked most recently as BBC Wales's Policy Manager.
Huw Roberts's role as Head of Marketing & Communications is to be extended to include responsibility for public affairs and political liaison.
Huw's career has already embraced both disciplines. He was Head of Corporate Communications with the utility company SWALEC before becoming Special Adviser to then Secretary of State for Wales Ron Davies.
Before joining BBC Wales he was Managing Director of Strategy Wales, one of the country's leading political consultancies.
The Board of Management is the group of senior managers who are responsible for the day-to-day running of BBC Wales and for deciding on major policy questions as well as editorial and strategic issues.
Menna Richards, Controller BBC Wales, said:
"I'm delighted that the management team is back to full strength. We are now well placed to face the many challenges and opportunities ahead of the BBC – in Wales and more widely."
