S4C Bafta success 26/4/2004
S4C's epic film about Welsh poetry Dal: Yma/Nawr, directed by Marc Evans, has scored a hat-trick of prizes at this year's Welsh BAFTA awards ceremony.
Starring Ioan Gruffudd, Matthew Rhys, Rhys Ifans, Siân Phillips and a host of other Welsh stars, the film won the awards for Best Documentary/Drama Documentary, Best Camera - Not Drama and Best Editor.
S4C's bitter-sweet romantic film Siôn a Siân, broadcast on Christmas Day, also won two prizes, Best Film and Best Screenwriter, while Ryland Teifi, one of the stars of surreal comedy drama Fondue, Rhyw a Deinasors won the prize for Best Actor.
S4C's exclusive fly-on-the-wall documentary about singer Cerys Matthews, Cerys, won the award for Best Youth Programme and was one of a total of 19 S4C wins.
Lloriau/The Unswept Floor won the Best Animation Bafta, while Matthew Gravelle won the BAFTA for Best Newcomer for his S4C animated short Tapiau. Actor John Ogwen, who has starred in numerous S4C productions, was presented with the Bafta Cymru Special Award.
The award for best original music soundtrack went to S4C's international co-production Pwy Ysgrifennodd y Testament Newydd?/Who Wrote the New Testament? which had a score composed by Karl Jenkins.
S4C's three-part thriller Triongl won the award for Best Director of Photography - Drama and Best Design, while period drama Treflan won the Best Make-up Bafta. Trwy Lygaid Thomas Jones, a documentary about the Welsh artist, won the award for Best Educational Programme.
Satirical animated sketch show CNEX won the Bafta for Best Light Entertainment.

"This level of recognition gives everyone involved in S4C's success an extra boost and reinforces our determination to meet the challenges of a fast-changing broadcasting industry."
