New tactical voting guide for Wales 11/4/2005
The political watchdog Delyn Democracy has published a tactical voting ⣣guide which they say is for ⣣all those Welsh voters who really want to give Blair a bloody nose whilst still keeping the Tories out of Wales in the 2005 General Election⣣.
A co-editor of the Delyn Democracy website said: ⣣It is the democratic entitlement of electors in Wales and elsewhere to discuss and be informed about tactical voting strategies, if they so wish, to (a) hold Blair to account for the illegal war in Iraq and (b) ensure Michael Howard⣣s ugly right-wing campaign is not successful. This tactical voting guide can be interpreted as a polite reminder to Welsh Secretary and Neath Labour candidate, Peter Hain, that elections are for the electors, not simply the party political machines.⣣
The ⣣Guide⣣ is published despite the Welsh Secretary, Peter Hain, condemning the prospect of tactical and protest voting. Hain has also lashed out by caricaturing many disgruntled Labour supporters as ⣣liberal middle-class dinner party critics⣣ (as reported in yesterday⣣s Observer).
The co-editor added: ⣣We have great respect for Peter Hain⣣s excellent track record in campaigning against the South African apartheid system and the many positive measures he has voted for as an MP. We are, however, fully aware that Peter Hain has voted very strongly for foundation hospitals, student top-up fees, the illegal Iraq war, and measures that take away civil liberties. In addition, Cabinet Ministers such as him earn over £130,000 per year; one can only speculate as to whether he attends middle or upper class dinner parties.⣣
Delyn Democracy has also produced a classification of different ⣣voter types⣣ ⣣ of which tactical voters are only one type.
