Campaign to make Aled Jones First Minister

15/10/2005

A new web site has been set up calling for the singer Aled Jones to be First Minister for the Welsh Assembly.
Nancy Richards, who runs the site, says, " Who wouldn't like to wake up in a not too distant Welsh future, knowing that your country is in the safe hands of Aled Jones? Just imagine the possibilities; at  any public occasion if the crowd started to bore of the dreary, mundane politics, Aled could burst into a little bit of song, suddenly reigniting their interest  - the world of politics would never be boring again.
" This is what it boils down to: Who would you rather have representing your country in the global political arena - a faceless, overpaid, untrustworthy, so-called political figure, or the  well known, well loved TV and music personality Aled Jones?
" When I put it like that - there is no option really is there? And before you  go dismissing my campaign as just pure silly, hang on a little minute  and think. The transition from well known celebrity to leading political figure isn't something new or untried. I would direct you to the forward thinking US state of California, where only two years ago Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected as the 38th Governor of the state. The Americans knew - if he could save the world in Terminator 2, surely he could rescue the 5th largest economy on the globe.
Ms Richards says she hopes the site will forge a future career for Aled in the important world of politics - even though he may not know it yet.
" Aled is well respected, well loved and very highly thought of by millions of people, but more than this, he is Welsh through and through. And for this reason I can see no better candidiate than Aled for the position of First Minister for the Welsh Assembly. "
