Cash for sports clubs in Gwynedd

27/7/2009

Grants will give the people of Gwynedd more opportunities to participate in sport, from the more traditional sports such as hockey and football to something a bit more unusual like surfing and canoeing. This is thanks to a cash boost from Community Chest Funding, which is part of the Sports Council for Wales. More than £9,000 will be awarded between 11 clubs and associations from all over the county.

David Lloyd-Williams, of Gwynedd Council’s Sport Development Team, said: “This is excellent news for the various clubs and societies and will give more people the opportunity to get active. We all know that sports clubs are often the hub of our communities and we are confident that this grant funding will help them grow and thrive.

“Gwynedd sports clubs and organisations can benefit from grants of up to £1,000 through the Sportlot fund. I would urge any other group or association who is interested in funding to get in touch for further information in time for the next round of funding.â€

The clubs and organisations that have been successful in the latest round of Sportlot grant funding include:

Clwb Syrffio Cerrig Surf Club, to purchase equipment to allow the club to expand, giving more people greater opportunities to surf regularly.
Bangor City FC Academy, funding to provide training for four volunteers to complete a C Licence course.
Bangor Tennis Club. funding for coach training and to organise a tennis event.
Caernarfon Wanderers FC, funding to provide coach training.
Bala Snooker Club, to purchase a new table and to fund coaching.
