Ahead of their clash with Wales at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, Argentina’s rugby team will take to the pitch in a friendly fixture against Cardiff University’s rugby team.

Taking place at the University Sports Field in Llanrumney today (18 November 2009) the match will give Argentina the chance to fine-tune their scrums and line-outs in preparation for the Autumn International.

For the University rugby team the fixture offers the prestige of competing against a world-class side and the opportunity to gain and develop vital skills.

As part of their pre-match build up for Saturday’s game, the Argentine players are also utilising the University’s extensive sporting facilities and equipment.

Head of Sport and Exercise at the University, Stuart Vanstone said: “This will be a real test and honour for the University rugby team to play against an international side such as Argentina. The experience they will gain from this fixture cannot be underestimated. This opportunity will be one that the boys will remember for some time and further indicates the value that Sport can provide to a students experience whilst they study.

“We are delighted that the Argentine team are making full use of the University’s excellent sporting facilities in preparation for the game on Saturday.�

Cardiff is committed to developing and encouraging participation in sport at all levels and has selected rugby as a focus sport. Graduates and current students of the University who have progressed into professional rugby include Graham Price (Pontypool, Wales and British Lions), David Pickering (Llanelli, Neath and Wales), Robin Sowden-Taylor (Cardiff Blues and Wales), Rob Sidoli (Cardiff Blues and Wales) and Jamie Roberts (Cardiff Blues and Wales).

Argentina take on Wales at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday 21st November 2009. Kick-off is at 2.30 pm.
