High noon at Chelsea

27/1/2010

After their 6-0 thumping of Bristol City last night, Cardiff City's FA Cup fifth round tie at Chelsea will be played on Saturday, February 13, kick off 12 noon.

Manager Dave Jones hailed the Chelsea effect after seeing his team demolish derby rivals Bristol 6-0 at Ashton Gate.

The manager said: "The Cup draw has given us a big boost. Getting through on Saturday and then being drawn away to Chelsea has made the place really lively.

"We came into training yesterday and were only supposed to have a light morning and a recovery day to see how some of the players were. But the training session was high tempo with good movement and I think we've just carried it on tonight.

"I thought we'd be a bit flat yesterday, and we'd have to get them up and running, but the whole atmosphere around the place was highly charged and I think it was because of the draw. Everybody's looking forward to it.

"It's given everyone an uplift. Stevie Mac and Miguel joined in yesterday's training session, and in the end, we had to stop it.

"Our third man running and our passing was spot on tonight. We got our noses in front and maybe Bristol chased the game too soon. I think the pass from Ross for Chops' first goal was top quality and everything we hit seemed to go in, but there was a bit more to it than that. It was than just a five-minute spell. We got a grip on the game and continued it."

Dave is also satisfied that his team have shaken off the ghosts of Peterborough, where they were held to a 4-4 draw after leading 4-0 at half time.

He once again paid tribute to the Cardiff fans, saying: "They were fantastic because in today's financial climate it's difficult. I know it's not far to come but it's still an expense. They're brilliant and I thought they were magnificent tonight."

The Chelsea Cup tie will be broadcast live and free on www.TheFA.com

Ticket prices and allocation for City fans will be announced on this website as soon as possible.

If a replay of the tie is necessary, it will be played at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, March 6.

Southampton's match with Portsmouth has been named as the first of the fifth round ties to be screened live on ITV1 on Saturday, February 13, kick-off 12.30. Further TV ties for the fifth round will be announced by the FA in due course.
