Gower says take a bus to the beach 7/8/2007
Swansea Council is hoping it can solve parking problems at popular beaches on Gower by asking people to leave their cars at home and use the Gower Explorer bus service which travels to and from many of the popular bays seven days a week.
The Council car parking teams had their hands full during a hot spell earlier in the week when beach car parks quickly filled up, prompting beachgoers to ignore warning signs and park illegally on the roadside.
Police were called to Caswell Bay to try and ease the problem of illegal parking.
John Hague, Cabinet Member for the Environment in Swansea Council, said, "During the summer months we expect our beach car parks to be busy and ensure we have attendants on hand to help with parking.
"It's vital that motorists pay attention to the signage at beaches and do not park illegally.
"The Gower Explorer bus service has been developed by the Council to help provide a regular service to many of the popular beach destinations in Gower.
"We hope that people will leave their cars at home and use the service. This will help cut down on the amount of cars descending on places such as Caswell Bay and help ease congestion."
