If learning to swim is high on your list of New Year's resolutions? Cardiff Council's Aquatic Development team are returning this January with free swimming lessons for adults.
Following the success of the swimming programme which was launched last year, Active Cardiff will again be offering 144 free places on adult swimming lessons.
Cabinet Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Huw Thomas said: "I am really pleased this initiative is returning for a second year due to its popularity last year."It is an excellent way to encourage more adults across our city to learn how to swim, gaining confidence in the water, absolutely free of charge.
"Swimming is a low impact sport which can improve health and wellbeing and is accessible to everyone and these free lessons give everyone a chance to learn this invaluable skill which can benefit them for the rest of their lives."
Lessons specifically target adults who would like to learn to swim and improve their confidence in water.The programme will follow the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) Adult Learn to Swim framework and will be delivered by fully qualified experienced ASA/UKCC Level 2 swimming teachers.
Teachers will guide and work with adults by teaching a range of skills and basic strokes during each lesson.Participants will also be given the exciting opportunity to overcome the fear of water and embark on a new life skill.
Swimming is a fantastic way to keep fit and help lose weight. It can also be a great way for people to engage with their children and grandchildren whilst making new friends.The ten week programme commences week beginning the 7 January 2013 and is available to 144 residents on a first come first served basis.
Lessons will take place during weekday evenings and weekends with a maximum of 12 people enrolled on each course. Participating facilities include Eastern, Western, Llanishen, Fairwater and Pentwyn Leisure Centres as well as Splott Swimming Pool.

The Swim21 accreditation is the ASA ‘quality mark' awarded to those aquatic providers who provide the best swimming experience for all and who continually raise the quality of swimming provision across all areas.Cardiff Council offer a value for money, monthly membership specifically for pool based activities.
The Aqua+ Active gives customers unlimited use of Cardiff Council's swimming facilities and pool activities together with table tennis, athletics, soft play, pre-school gym and 50+ activities.
