Swansea University has started an international recruitment drive to attract a further 40 world-class academics. Driven by an ambitious strategic plan, the University is enjoying a period of rapid, research-led growth. In the 2005/06 academic year,it attracted in excess of £35 million in new research funding, more than double the value of new research contracts won in 2004/05.
The funding complements numerous multi-million pound initiatives underway on campus, including the £50 Institute of Life Sciences , £30 million Institute of Advanced Telecommunications , Multidisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre, Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture Research and the Institute of Environmental Sustainability . The 40 new posts represent the second stage of expansion for the University. In the first stage, over the last 18 months, 100 new academic staff have been recruited and are already contributing to a new research vibrancy on the campus. In addition to recruiting a new Head of School to take over from Mrs Anne Hopkins, who is retiring as the Head of the School of Health Science, the University is advertising for 12 professors in fields as diverse as languages, business, engineering, geography, biological sciences, history and law. The appointments reflect the range of disciplines enjoying continued growth at Swansea .
